WTC 2023 Final: WATCH – Gill shakes his head in disbelief, Rohit argues with umpires after fellow opener’s controversial dismissal

Shubman Gill's controversial dismissal created quite a stir on social media.

The TV umpire felt Cameron Green's fingers were underneath the ball | GettyIndia opener Shubman Gill's dismissal to a Cameron Green catch in the fourth innings of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final triggered a huge controversy on Saturday (June 10).

In the final over before Tea break, Gill edged the first delivery against Scott Boland and Green, who was stationed at gully, leaped to his left to hold onto an inconclusive catch.

The on-field umpires went upstairs to check for a clean catch. After watching the reply from multiple angles, TV umpire Richard Kettleborough felt that Green’s fingers were underneath the ball and declared Gill out, much to the dismay of the batter and his opening partner Rohit Sharma.

While walking back to the pavilion for 18, Gill shook his head in disbelief. On the other hand, the Indian captain argued with the umpire, seemingly asking why Gill was given out even though the evidence was not quite conclusive.

After a brief argument with the on-field umpires, Rohit also shook his head in disappointment as the players made their way to the dressing room for Tea break.

Here’s the video:

Earlier, Australia declared their second innings on 270/8 to set a huge 444-run target for India to win the WTC final.

After the Tea break, Rohit Sharma was joined by Cheteshwar Pujara in the middle and the pair batted well to take India to 88/1 after 18 overs.
