PAK v ENG 2022: “Achaar bechne aaye the…” Kaneria’s distasteful comment on Pakistan bowlers after 1st Test loss

Pakistan suffered a 74-run defeat at the hands of England in the Rawalpindi Test.

England won the first Test minutes before the close of play | GettyFormer spinner Danish Kaneria slammed Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and PCB chief Ramiz Raja after the team’s defeat in the opening Test against England at Rawalpindi.

On a flat Rawalpindi wicket, the Test match was heading towards a draw before England made a brave declaration in their second innings at 264/7, setting a target of 343 for the hosts, who were bowled out for 268 minutes before the close of play on Day 5.

With this 74-run defeat, Pakistan conceded a 1-0 lead to England in the three-match Test series.

"Abhi hamari management aake baat karegi, Babar Azam baat karenge, PCB ke head baat karenge 'acchi cricket kheli England ne, hume unse seekhna chahiye. Toh seekho na. Kab seekhoge? Time Guzar jayega. (Now our management will talk, Babar Azam and PCB chief will say 'England played well, we should learn from them'. Then learn, when will you? It's already too late)," Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

Earlier, the tourists piled up a mammoth 657/10 at a rapid pace of 6.5 an over with their four batters – Harry Brook (153), Zak Crawley (122), Ben Duckett (107) and Ollie Pope (108) – smashing centuries.

Kaneria was highly critical of the young Pakistani pacers and said that the team management will now blame the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

"They might blame Shaheen Afridi’s absence for the loss. If he’s not available, then dusre achaar bechne aaye the? (Others came to sell pickles?) Where are the planning and strategy, where is the reverse swing?” he said.

In the first innings, Pakistan responded by scoring 579/10 with three of their batters – Abdullah Shafique (114), Imam-ul-Haq (121) and Babar Azam (136) – slamming hundreds.

However, the home team’s batting wasn’t up to the mark in the final innings as no batter managed to hit a century. Saud Shakeel was the top scorer with 76.

For England, Ollie Robinson (4-36) and James Anderson (4-50) starred with the ball in the final innings, claiming four wickets each.

Kaneria advised the Pakistan team to learn from Ben Stokes' captaincy and be fearless in their approach.

"We only talk about the revival of international cricket in Pakistan. Pura din wahi manjan chal raha hota hai (the same discussion continues the entire day). Pakistan were clueless. Babar Azam should learn from Ben Stokes’ captaincy. Coaches around the world should also learn from Brendon McCullum. Their team doesn’t fear loss, but ours does.

“Our management fears losses. They only say that the team has been doing good. We are the No. 1 team. How can the Asia Cup happen without us? etc., but we don’t check where our cricket is heading. We made the wicket which was called dead rubber in Rawalpindi," he remarked.
