Inclement weather played spoilsport during the first session of the second day’s play in the first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia at Galle.

The Galle International Stadium was under covers for much of the morning session due to heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds.

The storm didn’t only delay the proceedings but also caused havoc at the venue. One of the makeshift stands at Galle’s stadium collapsed and a glass panel fell in front of the dugout, where the visiting Australian team was seated on Day 1 of the Test match.

Thankfully, none of the players, the ground staff or spectators were hurt because of the same.

While the rain did stop at Galle, the match was delayed due to a wet outfield at the time of writing this.

On Day 1, Australia bundled out Sri Lanka for 212 in 59 overs after being asked to bowl first. Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon starred with the ball, returning with a five-wicket haul (5-90).

The visitors were on 98/3 at the close of play, trailing the hosts by 114 runs in the first innings, with Usman Khawaja (47*) and Travis Head (6*) unbeaten in the middle.
