Ross Taylor | ScreengrabNew Zealand great Ross Taylor got emotional as he bid adieu to Test cricket after Blackcaps’ innings and 117-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at Christchurch on Tuesday (January 11).

Before this series, Taylor had announced that he will hang his boots from international cricket after the home summer.

In his last Test outing, the 37-year-old managed to score only 28 runs in New Zealand’s only innings but he made his farewell memorable with a wicket off his last delivery, dismissing Bangladesh tail-ender Ebadot Hossain to seal the deal for the Kiwis.

The entire New Zealand team gathered around Ross Taylor to give him a farewell.

"It's great to finish off your career with a win and a wicket, I wanted to finish off with a win and the guys did it. Bangladesh put us under a lot of pressure a number of times, it's only fair that we share the series. We were under pressure at the start of the match, but then we got the runs that put us in a good stead, the boys returned well with the ball yesterday afternoon," Taylor said after the match.

During the speech, Taylor could not hold back his tears. His family members were also present in the stadium.

"The series was great - I was wondering if we need to come back tomorrow, but the boys were fantastic. It became a bit funky towards the end, I chucked it up and Tom (Latham) said it was the most precious thing I did over the whole game. I have thoroughly enjoyed representing my country, have played a lot here (in Christchurch), spent a lot of time and it's a great way to finish," he added.

It wasn't the first time that emotions got the better of Ross Taylor in this Test match. During the national anthem on the opening day, he was seen having tears in his eyes as the camera focused on him.
