Former England skipper Michael Vaughan lauded Team India’s batting performance on day 2 of the WTC 2021 final on Twitter, saying that 225 would be a par score in the first innings.

After being asked to bat first in the final of ICC World Test Championship (WTC), Team India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill showed great resilience and gave the team a solid start, scoring 62 runs for the opening partnership.

The opening stand was broken after Rohit Sharma edged one behind the wickets off a ball from Kyle Jamieson and then a few overs later Shubman Gill fell after he was caught behind off left-arm seamer Neil Wagner.

Team India looked in a little bit of concern after Cheteshwar Pujara was trapped lbw for 8 off 54 balls by Trent Boult. However Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane ensured no further harm was done.

The duo showed great patience and determination and scored an unbeaten 58 runs partnership. Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 44 and Ajinkya Rahane on 29 at stumps on Day 2.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan lauded Virat Kohli-led side’s batting performance on Day 2 and opined that 225 would be a par score in the first innings of the WTC final.

“225 looks around par to me in Southampton … India has done very very well so far in these conditions not to have lost a lot more … #worldtestchampionshipfinal … Anyway it’s time for a G & T up north… #OnOn #INDvsNZ,” Michael Vaughan Tweeted.

At stumps on Day 2, Team India were 146/3 and it would be interesting to see if Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane can carry on the momentum when the play resumes on Day 3.
