SA v SL 2020-21: South Africa squad tests negative for COVID-19 ahead of Sri Lanka Test series

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Sunday (December 20) confirmed that all members of the South African Test squad tested negative for the COVID-19 ahead of the upcoming two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka starting December 29 in Centurion.

In a statement, CSA has announced that the COVID-19 tests were conducted on Saturday after they assembled for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka in the bio-secure environment in Pretoria.

The Proteas squad was reduced to 17 players on Friday after two members of the team have returned positive for the deadly COVID-19 during their first round of testing ahead of the team's entry into the bio-secure environment in Pretoria.

The South African cricket board stated: “Cricket South Africa (CSA) is pleased to report that the entire Proteas team has returned negative results from the COVID-19 tests that were conducted upon their entry into the Bio-Secure Environment yesterday ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting on Saturday, 26 December.”

Noteworthy, CSA on Friday included three more players Raynard van Tonder, Lutho Sipamla, and Dwaine Pretorius to the South African Test squad for the home Tests against Sri Lanka.

The two-match Test series will begin with the first Test on December 26 with the second and final Test to be played from January 3, 2021, at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
