NZ v WI 2020: WATCH - "It'd be a special achievement", says Boult with New Zealand in sight of No.1 tag

Victory over West Indies in Wellington will take New Zealand to the top of the ICC Test rankings.

Trent Boult | GettyAs New Zealand reached within closing distance of becoming the No.1 ranked Test side in the world, pacer Trent Boult said it would be a "special achievement" and testament to the hardwork done over the last few years.

While wins abroad have been sporadic, the Kiwis remain a dominating force in home conditions. They haven't conceded a game on their shores since 2017 and only need to close out the ongoing Wellington Test against West Indies to attain the top spot in the rankings table for the very first time.

"Obviously, it will be a tremendous achievement but one of those things that is grafted over many seasons...what we have been able to achieve at home and some special wins in overseas as well; that has been amazing," said Boult in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

"If we reach the number one ranking, it would be nice to reflect on the work that has been done over the last few seasons. It would be a pretty special achievement in my opinion," he added.

The Black Caps only need four wickets to win at the Basin Reserve with West Indies still trailing by 85 runs on being asked to follow-on.

The Kiwis had earlier dismissed the visitors for just 131 after posting a massive total of 460 themselves.

This victory will also help New Zealand dislodge England from the third spot in the World Test Championship points table as they continue their surge towards next year's Lord's final.
