ENG v PAK 2020: Ashwin invites 600-wicket club member Anderson for debate on mankading and shredder

James Anderson became the fourth bowler in cricket history to claim 600 Test wickets.

Only Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708) and Anil Kumble (619) had previously broken the 600-wicket barrier in the longest format of the game.

Moments after this historic achievement, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter and congratulated Anderson. He also invited the veteran England pacer to discuss an old incident involving a run out and a paper shredder.

“An extraordinary bowler @jimmy9 goes past yet another milestone. What a bowler and what an achievement !! Well done and look forward to having a healthy debate on the run out and shredder ASAP! Someone like you can really help settling the stigma surrounding it,” Ashwin wrote.

Notably, Ashwin's act of running out Rajasthan Royals' Jos Buttler for backing up too far as captain of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2019 had triggered a massive uproar and did polarise opinions. While many came out in his support as the form of dismissal is part of the laws, some cited the spirit of the game to crucify the move.

After that Mankading incident, Anderson did a bizarre thing to criticise Ashwin. He took an image of the off-spinner and ran it through a paper shredder – thereby metaphorically ripped him to bits.

The duo had a Twitter exchange on Mankading earlier this year as well, when Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmed ran out Pakistan's Mohammad Huraira during the Under-19 World Cup quarterfinal in South Africa.
