There is a lot of anticipation surrounding around India’s tour Down Under later this year, where Virat Kohli and company will face the Tim Paine-led Australian side in four Tests.
Just like the fans, India batsman Rohit Sharma is also excited for the series and is hoping that the BCCI and CA will find a solution to organise it whenever sports resume after the COVID-19 pandemic.
At present, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 scheduled for December-January is under threat given the travel restrictions across the globe due to the deadly outbreak.
“I love playing against Australia, when we won the series in Australia the last time we toured there, it was a very big achievement. Obviously you were not there, we are looking for the series against Australia this year. I wish both BCCI and CA manage something to get the series underway. It would be a great series for people to watch, it would be a good way to kick off cricket in the world,” Rohit said during an Instagram live session with Australia opener David Warner.
CA stands to lose a staggering 300 million Australian dollars if the India series does not go ahead. As of now, Australia’s borders are sealed till September 30.
The Coronavirus epidemic has also forced the BCCI to suspend the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) until further notice.
Rohit still believes that the IPL 2020, which was originally scheduled to start from March 29, may take place in the coming months.
“IPL may also happen, but I do not know the exact month and date. I am really looking forward to the Australian tour, we love coming to Australia and playing against you guys. Once we land in Australia, nothing comes easy, it is one of my favourite places in the world,” he said.
