Teen Pakistan pace sensation Naseem Shah has been picked to play for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in the upcoming two-match Test series and then Bangladesh in December and January which might mean he will be excluded from their U19 World Cup squad.

The 16-year-old was picked to play for Pakistan against Australia last month where he made his red-ball debut. He was dropped for the second Test for ‘workload management’ as Waqar Younis clarified. He has now been picked to play two home Tests against Sri Lanka in December and then the Test series against Bangladesh in January 2020.

Naseem Shah named in Pakistan's squad for the 2020 U19 World Cup

The U19 World Cup will begin on 17 January 2020 in South Africa and Shah will have to miss the tournament to play for the senior side. A PCB source said, “Two reserve pacers have already been named in the camp and if Naseem is required for national duty he will be replaced as he can’t play for both the senior and junior teams.

Pakistan’s national junior head coach Ejaz Ahmed had specifically requested the teenager while announcing the U19 squad last week. However, senior head coach and national selector Misbah-ul-Haq named him in the Test squad.

The Test series against Sri Lanka will commence on December 11 (Wednesday).
