Australia's relatively average batting display in the ongoing fifth and final Test at The Oval raised questions on the intensity level of the tourists, but Marnus Labuschagne has denied that by saying they are not just here to retain the urn but also Ashes 2019 series as well.

It is being said that Australia’s intensity has drooped having retained the Ashes Urn in England after the tourists were bowled out for 225 in the first innings to give a 78 runs lead to England with all 10 wickets in hand going into the second innings at The Oval.

England brilliantly bounced back in the Ashes 2019 thanks to Jofra Archer whose excellent spell of 6 for 62 that pushed the tourists back in the match, although, Labuschagne’s 48 and Steve Smith’s 80 pulled out Australia from the crisis following early downfall to take them to respectable total at The Oval.

Australia’s first inning display has given an obvious chance to England to win the final Test and level the Ashes series 2-2 despite failing to reclaim the urn, but Labuschagne insisted that Australia is still in the match and are determined to win the Test series here.

Labuschagne told BBC Sport after the match, “We came here today looking for a really solid batting performance and obviously we didn't do that but we're still in the contest.”

He signed off, “The intensity definitely has not dropped. It's hard to say that when our play on the field maybe reflects that. But we came to win the Ashes and we really want to do that. We don't want to just retain the Ashes. We have to come out tomorrow 100 percent on it and ready to take any chance.”
