Ben Stokes was the national hero for the second time in just over a month for his home side as he pulled off an Ashes miracle as he took England to a series-leveling win with an impossible-looking chase in Headingley, Leeds.
While talking to BBC Somerset, England left-arm spinner Jack Leach revealed that 28-year-old Stokes used his box while batting at Headingley.
“He uses my box now. In the Lord’s game, he had to get ready quite quickly, there were a couple of wickets and he lost his box so he was panicking. He was like; ‘Leachy, can I borrow your box?” said Leach.
“He was not out at the end of the day and he was like; ‘this is going to sound weird, but I need to keep using your box.”
“So obviously I was like; ‘yeah that’s fine.”
The left-hand batsman went on to score a superb 115 runs in the rain-affected second test match at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s.
After the Lord’s innings, Leach revealed that Stokes asked him to keep his box as he said, “mate, I’m going to have to keep that box now. It’s a bit of a superstitious thing he said and if Ben Stokes is happy, then I’m happy. It worked again in this case.”
I caught up with #Ashes hero Jack Leach today.
