India skipper Mithali Raj on Wednesday (March 16) said it is an honour to play alongside Jhulan Goswami after the veteran pacer became the first bowler in women's cricket to claim 250 ODI wickets.
Mithali’s comments came after India’s four-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the ongoing Women’s World Cup in Mount Maunganui.
During the match, Jhulan achieved this feat by dismissing England opener Tammy Beaumont.
"We definitely didn't have partnerships and it didn't go our way despite getting what we wanted after losing the toss. When you lose you always think you are short on runs. Getting 200 could have had the match go either way," said Mithali Raj in the post-match presentation.
"Every game we've done well as a fielding unit. It is a department where we have improved. We need to work very hard with our batting. It is an honour to play alongside Jhulan Goswami. It is difficult for any fast bowler to play at this level consistently," she added.
The defending champions outplayed the Women in Blue in all departments of the game at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
Opting to bowl, England bowled out India for a paltry 134 in 36.2 overs. It was a listless batting performance from the Mithali-led side as no one managed to touch the 40-run mark. Richa Ghosh was the top scorer with 33.
For England, Charlotte Dean starred with the ball, claiming four wickets by conceding only 23 runs in her 8.2 overs.
In reply, England rode on skipper Heather Knight’s unbeaten 53 and Natalie Sciver’s 45 to overhaul the target with 112 balls to spare.
