The India women's cricket team is highly unlikely to get training permission while quarantining in Australia ahead of the multi-format series due to the new COVID-19 related restrictions in the country.

The 22-member Indian Women squad departed for a full-fledged tour of Australia on Sunday (August 29) and they will reach Brisbane via Dubai on Monday (August 30). India and Australia Women are all set to play three ODIs, a day-night Test, and three T20Is in Mackay and Carrara.

Given the strict COVID-19 rules in Australia, Indian players will now have to complete a 14-day hard quarantine upon arrival in Brisbane on Monday, as they are highly likely to be confined to their hotel rooms for the entire duration of the quarantine.

Earlier, the tourists were hoping to get to train after a week of hard quarantine, but now it is being said that the players are likely to be confined to their hotel rooms for 14 days and there would be further changes in the itinerary that will be announced by Cricket Australia soon.

According to PTI, a BCCI official stated: “Training permission is highly unlikely after the first week in the current scenario. There could be further changes in the itinerary. The hard quarantine will be extremely tough for the players but is what it is.”

Meanwhile, a player said, “It will be very tough but at least we get to play after that.”

Noteworthy, India women's team is set to play its first-ever pink-ball Test match and without preparations, it will be their biggest challenge on the Australia tour. Though, it remains to be seen if the Indian team gets a practice game before the three-match ODI series against Australia.
