IPL 2021: RCB’s Washington Sundar fails to recover from finger injury; ruled out of remaining IPL 14

Sundar had sustained the injury in England during a practice match between before the Test series.

Washington Sundar | BCCI/IPLRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have suffered a big blow ahead of the second phase of IPL 2021 as all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the tournament due to a finger injury.

Sundar had sustained the injury during the practice match between Indians and County Select XI before the ongoing Test series in England and he has not healed completely.

Taking to Twitter, RCB on Monday (August 30) confirmed the news, citing that Sundar is yet to recover from his finger injury.

“Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of #IPL2021 as he hasn’t fully recovered from his finger injury,” the Bangalore-based franchise tweeted.

In the same tweet, RCB also announced Bengal cricketer Akash Deep as Sundar’s replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021.

“Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal who until now was a net bowler with RCB, has been named as Washi’s replacement.”

According to a PTI report, Washington Sundar appeared in a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru a few days back but could not clear it.

With the ICC T20 World Cup slated to begin just two days after the conclusion of IPL 2021, it remains to be seen if Sundar is picked in the Indian squad without playing a single IPL game.
