India skipper Rohit Sharma led his team from the front in the recently held T20 World Cup, which the Men in Blue won by beating South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The highlight of Rohit’s performance was his brutal knock against Australia in the Super 8 fixture in St Lucia. The right-handed opener smashed 92 off 41 balls to propel India to a mammoth 205/5 in 20 overs.

Rohit’s whirlwind knock was studded with seven boundaries and eight sixes. He was particularly severe on Mitchell Starc, hitting the left-arm pacer for four sixes and a boundary in the third over of the match.

Speaking on the LiSTNR Sport podcast, Starc recalled that over in which he was taken to the cleaners by the Indian captain.

"I have had played a lot against him (Rohit). He had a really good tournament, especially the back end. I think he targeted the wind in St. Lucia as well. There was that one end where we conceded a lot more than others. And I was bowling from that very end (laughs). I had 5 bad balls and he hit all for sixes (four 6s and one 4s),” Starc said.

"That was the best wicket we played on in terms of runs scored in the whole World Cup. It was probably the quickest wicket across the West Indies. So we were on the chase for some time, but then a couple of hiccups and some good quality bowling from them just set us back," he added.

Rohit was looking set for a three-figure mark in that game, but a yorker from Starc took the inside edge of his bat and crashed into the stumps.

In the end, India’s gigantic total of 205 proved too much for the 2021 champions as they lost the match by 24 runs despite Travis Head’s brilliance with the bat (76 off 43).

After losing to Afghanistan and India in the Super 8 round, Australia failed to qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024.
