India captain Rohit Sharma did a unique strut as he approached the podium to collect the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy on Saturday, June 29. India defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament in Barbados by 7 runs to become two-time T20 World champions.
Rohit Sharma’s famous walk to collect the trophy went viral and the general claim was that Rohit recreated Lionel Messi's iconic moment from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has shut that discussion down.
In the video that went viral, Kuldeep Yadav was seen telling Rohit during the medal-presentation ceremony about Messi's trophy celebration walk after Argentina had won the World Cup trophy. And Rohit did attempt pulling that off, with many on social media even agreeing to it.
But Flair reckoned that it was rather a ‘Ric Flair strut’, and had even posted on X in which he said: “@ImRo45 Taking A Page Out Of My Playbook! WOOOOO!”
Three days later, the 16-time world champion recreated Rohit's viral celebration to show as proof it was indeed a ‘Ric Flair strut.’

It was a huge redemption moment for Rohit Sharma, who suffered a double heartbreak in 2023 as he lost the WTC final and ICC World Cup final to Australia while leading the Indian team.
