The 2024 edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, hosted by the West Indies and the USA, came to an end on Saturday (June 29).

It was a mixed tournament for Bangladesh as they won three out of their four group matches and then failed to register a single victory in the Super 8 round.

Days after the end of the competition, a shocking revelation has emerged from the Bangladesh camp, involving vice-captain Taskin Ahmed.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official has disclosed that Taskin overslept and didn't pick up calls ahead of the team’s Super 8 fixture against India.

The BCB official, on condition of anonymity, told Cricbuzz that Taskin couldn’t be reached for the India clash and the pacer later apologized to the team.

In the game against India, the Tigers went with only two pacers and didn't include Taskin in the XI. Bangladesh's team combination was questioned by many experts and there were speculations that the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha might have dropped Taskin.

"It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus. But why he did not play only the coach can say because whether he was in the plan or not (against India) is something that can be answered by the head coach," the BCB official said.

The official, however, dismissed the reporters of any issue between Taskin and the Bangladesh coach.

"If there was any issue (between coach and the player) how he played the next game against Afghanistan," he said.

"He apologised to his teammates and everyone for not being able to get up on time and that's it and no need to make an issue out of it," he added.

Bangladesh suffered a crushing 50-run defeat at the hands of India in Super 8s. They failed to qualify for the semis of the marquee event, which India won by beating South Africa in the title clash.
