Opting to bat first, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma for 13-ball 8. His opening partner Virat Kohli also found it tough on the slow track and was dismissed for run-a-ball 24. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant perished after playing a crucial cameo of 11-ball 20 at No. 3.

However, Suryakumar played with aggressive intent right from the outset while batting at No. 4. The dashing right-hander notched up his half-century off 27 balls before being dismissed on the next delivery for 53.

Surya’s knock was studded with five boundaries and three sixes. During his innings, he forged a crucial 60-run partnership with Hardik Pandya, who returned with 32 off 24 balls.

Thanks to Akshar Patel’s cameo (12 off 6 balls) in the death overs, Indian finished with a highly competitive total of 181/8 on the board.

For his dazzling half-century on a difficult pitch, Suryakumar Yadav received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
