Afghanistan roared into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024 after a win over Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi starred with the ball, taking 3/16 in four overs to help his side bundle out PNG for 95. In reply, Afghanistan chased down the target in 15.1 overs and won the match by seven wickets to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
Farooqi was named Player of the Match and was being interviewed by Ian Bishop when Rashid Khan began teasing him from near the camera. Rashid was trying to make Farooqi laugh which led to the pacer shouting ‘You shut up” at his captain.
The hilarious comment also got a response from Bishop who asked if the comment was for him.
“Just to be clear that wasn’t for me?,” enquired Bishop. “That’s for Rashid,” Farooqi replied with a smile.
Later, right before the interview concluded, Bishop told Farooqi that Rashid must be proud of him. The Afghanistan seamer concluded the interview by informing him about Rashid's continual attempt to humor him throughout the talk, which made all three of them chuckle.
“I’m sure your nation is proud of you and Rashid is proud of you too,” Bishop further said.
“He is trying to make me laugh but I am not laughing (smiles),” replied Farooqi.
