India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his love for the sport of Basketball in a greet session alongside the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, the NBA title, at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York.
Rohit is currently in the United States to lead the Indian cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The USA and the West Indies are hosting the showpiece tournament, starting on June 1.
The Indian captain was at his hilarious best as he addressed the trophy by saying, “Oh Larry Paaji, Ki haal chaal (Hey Larry Bro, Whatsup).”
The 37-year-old hailed Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan as his favourite player in the sport.
“My favourite has always been Michael Jordan, for what he did for Chicago Bulls is obviously quite inspiring,” he said.
Rohit is also fond of watching contemporary Basketball stars such as LeBron James and Steph Curry.
“And guys like LeBron James, Steph Curry, those are the guys I love watching,” he continued.
In the end, Rohit Sharma was seen lifting the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy and quipped that it was quite heavy.
“Oh, it looks quite heavy! No wonder they are so tall, strong and big,” he stated.
It's been more than a decade since Team India last won a global title. After the Champions Trophy triumph in 2013, the side has lost as many as five ICC event finals and bowed out in the semi-finals on numerous occasions.
Last year, the Men in Blue had a great chance to end the ICC trophy drought but they once again failed to cross the final hurdle. The Rohit Sharma-led side won all the league-stage matches and the semi-final before losing the title clash of the Cricket World Cup to Australia in Ahmedabad.
While the Indian team is considered one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA next month, it remains to be seen whether Rohit and his men manage to end the ICC trophy drought or not.
India, slatted in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Canada and Ireland, will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5.
