Cricket South Africa (CSA) on September 6, 2022, announced the Proteas' 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 which will be played in Australia this October-November this year. Temba Bavuma has been included and will captain the side.
Bavuma had suffered an elbow injury during India T20Is in July and missed the entire all-format tour of England to recover, and opted for conservative treatment instead of surgery with a view to being fit for the World Cup.
He is set to make his comeback in South Africa's white-ball tour of India, of three T20Is and three ODIs, where he is expected to be available for all the games.

One big name missing from the South Africa squad is of Rassie van der Dussen, who has not been considered due to injury. He broke his left index finger while fielding during the second Test against England at Old Trafford. He returned home after that match to see a finger specialist and is expected to be out for "up to six weeks".
This has made space for Rilee Rossouw to be included in the South Africa squad. Also included is young Tristan Stubbs following an impressive outing in the recent T20I series against England.
Wayne Parnell has also been included with the selectors naming three traveling reserves in Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jasen, and Andile Phehlukwayo.
All 18 players are available to play in the T20I series against India from 28 September – 04 October, while a 15-strong player squad has been named for the proceeding three-match 50-over series.
