Asia Cup 2022: ‘One catch does not define a player’s role’- Shikhar Dhawan defends Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep dropped Asif Ali's catch and was brutally admonished on social media for it.

Arshdeep dropped Asif Ali's catch and was brutally admonished on social media for it | GettyIndia pacer Arshdeep Singh has been in headlines ever since he dropped a sitter of a catch to reprieve Pakistan’s Asif Ali in a tightly fought encounter which the Men in Green won by 5 wickets on September 4 in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

Singh was solely blamed for the Indian team’s defeat and suffered horrific abuse on social media as trollers called him all the names possible in the book. Arshdeep did reasonably well in the match barring the dropped catch incident which played a big role in Pakistan's victory.

He even did his best to defend 7 runs in the last over, picking up one wicket as well, but it was too little too less for him.

Asia Cup 2022: COC Predicted Team India playing XI for Sri Lanka match

Now India ODI opener Shikhar Dhawan has given his full backing to Arshdeep following the incident, suggesting one catch doesn't define a player's role.

He tweeted: “One catch does not define a player’s role in the team. We are all with you @arshdeepsinghh. You have a long and glorious career ahead. Go and win India more games. You are Unstoppable."

BCCI selectors inexplicably picked only three fast bowlers in the Indian 15-man squad for the Asia Cup in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan. Avesh has not been in the best of forms and missed the Pakistan match in Super 4s after being unwell.

India will face Sri Lanka in a must-win match to stay alive in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sept 6.
