ICC on Friday (July 16) announced the groupings for the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman, starting October 17. The former cricket players and critics have now started discussing about the teams' preparations ahead of the big event.

India is placed in Group 2 of the tournament along with two more Asian teams, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Also, the inaugural WTC winners, New Zealand will join them in the group. Two more teams from Round 1 of the tournament will join each group for the Super 12s.

Meanwhile, on ICC T20 World Cup special show by Star Sports Network, the former Indian players, Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa spoke about the previous World Cup wins for Team India and how it's high time that the team gets another trophy in their cabinet.

Both of them were part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team while Gambhir was also part of the ODI World Cup-winning squad in 2011.

Jay Shah, Sourav Ganguly reckon T20 World Cup will be a 'huge moment' for Oman cricket

“It was special (being a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup squad), but I have forgotten about it. To be honest, India needs to move on from that. 2007, it’s what, more than 13 years ago and I think we need to get rid of this obsession of 2007 and 2011," Gambhir said.

“Of course, for me personally, it’s a special moment, but I tend to agree with Gautam Gambhir. I think we have achieved that in 2007, so we know that is achievable," Uthappa added.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021, Indian players have a busy schedule lined up with limited-overs series in Sri Lanka followed by the Test Series in England. Also, just before the World Cup, the remaining 31 games of IPL 2021 will be played in UAE. The players' performance during the IPL can play a big role in getting a call from the selectors.
