Dean Elgar, leading South Africa in his final Test match, won the toss and chose to bat first. But Mohammed Siraj with 6/15 and Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar with two wickets apiece routed the host’s batting as they were bowled out for 55 runs.

India did well with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill making 39 and 36 respectively and Virat Kohli made 46, as they were poised for a good total at 153/4 at one stage. But then South African bowlers staged an amazing comeback, taking the remaining 6 Indian wickets in just 11 balls, without giving a single run.

India gained a lead of 98 runs despite the dramatic collapse and 153 all out. Then in their second innings, South Africa made 62/3 at the end of day one. 23 wickets fell on the opening day of the second Test, equaling the record for most wickets in a day in Cape Town.

However, on the second day, Aiden Markram decided to throw caution to the wind and slammed 106 runs in 103 balls with 17 fours and 4 sixes before falling to Mohammed Siraj. South Africa was bowled out for 176 and set India a target of 79 runs to win. Jasprit Bumrah took 6/61 for India.

Meanwhile, a funny incident happened when South Africa was 174/9 and Mohammed Siraj got a delivery to deflect from the pads of Nandre Burger. The ball was caught by Rohit Sharma at short leg and he thought about taking a DRS review.

Rohit said that he would take the review because there were all three remaining. However, he received some funny advice from Virat Kohli, who pushed him to take the review.
