India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made the South African batters dance to his tunes on Day 2 of the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town.
Resuming their second innings at 62/3, the Proteas batting line-up fell like a pack of cards in the morning session as Bumrah produced one his finest spells in red-ball cricket.
The right-arm quick claimed six wickets as India bundled out the hosts for 176. Since the visitors had taken a significant first-innings lead of 98 runs, they will now have to chase down the target of 79 to level the two-match series.
Bumrah, who had taken Tristan Stubbs’ wicket overnight, went on to dismiss David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi to bag his ninth five-wicket in Tests. Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna shared the remaining four scalps among them.
Aiden Markram waged a lone battle with the bat for South Africa, scoring 106 out of 176 runs in the second innings.
Cricket fraternity lauded Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional spell (6/61) which has put India in a commanding position in the Cape Town Test.
