After a disappointing first day with the bat, Team India made a fine comeback in the ongoing three-day warm-up match against New Zealand XI on Saturday (February 15), courtesy Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami’s high-quality fast bowling.

In reply to India’s 263 all-out, NZ XI got bowled out for 235 in 74.2 overs with Bumrah (2/18 in 11 overs) and Shami (3/17 in 10 overs) doing the bulk of the damage. Both the pacers used the conditions well and sent a warning signal for the home team ahead of the first Test in Wellington, starting February 21.

Umesh Yadav (2/49 in 13 overs), Navdeep Saini (2/58 in 15 overs) bowled more overs and chipped in with a couple of scalps but the duo wasn’t impressive in all their spells.

Batting in the second innings, Indian openers – Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal – found it a lot easy and played some gorgeous strokes as the visitors ended Day 2 with 59/0 on the board. While Shaw remained unbeaten on 35 off 25 balls (5 fours and 1 six), Agarwal finished with 23 off 17 balls (4 fours and 1 six).

Brief Scores:

India 263/10 and 59/0 (Prithvi Shaw 35*; Mayank Agarwal 23*) lead New Zealand XI 235/10 (Henry Cooper 40; Mohammad Shami 3/17; Jasprit Bumrah 2/18) by 87 runs until stumps on Day 2.
