Veteran India opener Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket, days before the selection of red-ball squad for the upcoming England tour.
Taking to Instagram, Rohit on Wednesday (May 7) wrote: “Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

After the T20 World Cup triumph last year, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format for India. His red-ball future became a topic of debate after he stepped aside from the fifth Test against Australia at SCG in January 2025 due to poor form.
With the India team set to tour England for a five-match Test series next month, Rohit ended the speculations by calling time on his Test career.
Rohit represneted India in 67 Tests, scoring 4301 runs at an average of 40.57 with 12 hundreds and 18 half-centuries.
