India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah might feature in the home Test series against Bangladesh next month, The Indian Express reported.

Bumrah was last seen in action during the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The right-arm quick is currently managing his workload and didn’t travel with the Indian team to Sri Lanka for the white-ball series.

The red-ball series between India and Bangladesh is slated to get underway on September 19 at Chepauk, while Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium will host the second Test from September 27 onwards.

According to the report, Bumrah is likely to play in one of the two Test matches against Bangladesh. In the subsequent home series against New Zealand, the 30-year-old fast bowler could feature in two Tests since there is just a three-day break between each of the three games.

Given that Mohammad Shami is also recovering from an injury, Mohammed Siraj is all set to lead the Indian pace attack in the upcoming home series. In fact, Siraj will also be rotated during the home season and could be rested for a couple of Tests.

“We cannot rest everyone at one go because you need experience, even in home conditions. Like in the case of the England series, where India paired a senior pacer with a youngster, a similar approach would be adopted. There is a good crop of fast bowlers at the Duleep Trophy who have been picked keeping the Australia tour in mind. If they do well, we can use them in home conditions before taking them to Australia,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying.

Earlier this year, Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in India’s home Test series win over England. He also won the Player-of-the-Tournament award in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph after finishing the competition with 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.50.
