Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been rewarded for his brilliance in the ongoing Test series against England with a new career-high spot in the ICC Test rankings, updated on Wednesday (February 28).
The southpaw gained three spots to reach 12th position after registering scores of 73 and 37 in India’s series-clinching five-wicket victory in the Ranchi Test. As a result, he surpassed his opening partner and skipper Rohit Sharma, who has dropped to No. 13 in the Test batter rankings.
It was only last week that Jaiswal leapfrogged 14 spots to 15th in the batting chart. The left-hander has been in incredible form in this series, amassing 655 runs from eight innings at an average of 93.57 with two double hundreds and as many half-centuries.
Star batter Virat Kohli, who is not featuring in the series due to personal reasons, continues to be the only Indian in top-10 batters' chart at the ninth spot.
India’s No. 3 batter Shubman Gill was also rewarded for his consistency in the series as he moved four places to No. 31 in the batting rankings. Gill scored a crucial half-century (52*) to take India over the line in the penultimate Test.
Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, the hero of India's Ranchi Test victory, jumped 31 slots to achieve a career-best spot of 69. Jurel stepped up to the plate under immense pressure in both innings, returning with scores of 90 and 39*.
New Zealand great Kane Williamson maintains a healthy lead as the No.1 ranked Test batter while England great Joe Root moved to the third spot courtesy of his 122* in the first innings of Ranchi Test.
England opener Zak Crawley also attained a new career-best rating after he rose 10 spots to 17 on the list for Test batters following scores of 42 and 60 in Ranchi.
India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah held onto his No. 1 position in the Test bowler rankings despite being rested for the fourth Test. Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav moved up 10 places to equal 32nd and a new career-high ranking following his four-wicket haul in the second innings against England.
As far as the Test all-rounder rankings is concerned – Joe Root jumped three places to the fourth spot after he picked up the prized scalp of Jaiswal. India’s Ravindra Jadeja still maintains a healthy lead as the No. 1 ranked Test all-rounder.
