BCCI to hold review meeting after T20 WC 2022, Bangladesh debacles; Rohit’s ODI captaincy to be discussed- Report

BCCI will meet Rohit, coach Dravid and senior batter Kohli once Bangladesh tour ends.

India lost second consecutive ODI series in Bangladesh | GettyThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will reportedly hold a review meeting with Indian team officials after the Men in Blue lost the ODI series to Bangladesh as a result of their defeat in the second ODI in Dhaka on Dec 7.

The BCCI officials are expected to have a meeting with coach Rahul Dravid, NCA chief VVS Laxman, Rohit, and former skipper Virat Kohli once the team returns from the tour of Bangladesh.

The review was to be conducted after India’s showing in the T20 World Cup 2022 where they lost to England in the semi-finals by 10 wickets, but it couldn’t happen due to scheduling issues. India has not won a major ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy win.

BCCI unveils schedule for India’s home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia

We weren’t able to meet the Indian team before going to Bangladesh as some of the office bearers were busy but we will schedule it as soon as the team is back from Bangladesh. It has been an embarrassing performance and we didn’t expect this team to lose to Bangladesh,” a top BCCI official said.

Hardik Pandya is expected to take over as India’s T20I captain in preparation for the 2024 T20 World cup in West Indies and USA, and taking that into consideration, the BCCI will discuss how long of a rope can be given to Rohit Sharma, the ODI captain.

Rohit Sharma | GettyThe BCCI official also said that the BCCI may be keen on retaining Rohit Sharma as captain of the ODI team despite his age, as the ODI World Cup 2023 is nearing, but the future of the Indian team's captaincy will only become clearer after the meeting.

During the T20 World Cup in Australia, the Indian team didn’t look T20-ready despite getting a year to plan.

The BCCI is also yet to appoint a new senior selection committee after it decided not to renew the tenure of Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Debashish Mohanty, and Harvinder Singh.
