Suryakumar Yadav rises to No.2 in T20I batting rankings, close to toppling Babar Azam from No. 1 spot

Suryakumar played a whirlwind knock of 44-ball 76 in the third T20I against West Indies.

Suryakumar Yadav | GettyIndia batter Suryakumar Yadav and South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi have made significant gains in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, jumping up to attain the second position for batters and bowlers, respectively, in the latest weekly update.

Suryakumar has advanced three slots to within two rating points of top-ranked Babar Azam after a whirlwind 76 off 44 balls in the third T20I against West Indies, which gave his team a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Shamsi, who was top-ranked for most of the period from April to October last year, has moved up one slot to take second position with 728 rating points after claiming eight wickets in Proteas’ 2-1 series win over England. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood continues to lead the chart with 792 rating points.

South Africa batter Reeza Hendricks, who slammed half-centuries in all three T20Is against England, has gained 16 slots to reach 15th position while West Indies batter Brandon King (up 29 places to 27th), England’s Jonny Bairstow (up 13 places to 31st) and South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw (joint-37th) have also made huge strides among batters.

Liton Das, Heinrich Klaasen and Rishabh Pant have also moved up that list while West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein (up three places to sixth), England’s Chris Jordan (up one place to 16th), New Zealand spinners Mitchell Santner (up three places to 17th) and Ish Sodhi (up two places to 19th) are among the others to make notable gains among bowlers.

In the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, India opener Shikhar Dhawan has moved up one spot to 12th position after hitting a half-century in the last match of the ODI series against West Indies. India bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal (16th) and Shardul Thakur (72nd) have also gained in the latest update while West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran is up two places to 30th.
