The 2011 World Cup triumph will always be etched in the memories of today’s Indian cricketers and fans. It was India’s second World Cup win after 28 years.
Former skipper MS Dhoni was one of the architects of India’s victory as he slammed 91* off 79 balls in the final while chasing Sri Lanka’s stiff target of 275.
April 2, 2022 marks the 11th anniversary of India's World Cup triumph. On this occasion, Dhoni cut the cake in the presence of his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammates and support staff.
Eric Simons, who is currently playing the role of CSK’s bowling consultant, was associated with the Indian cricket team back in 2011 and he also cut the cake alongside Dhoni.
CSK shared pictures and videos of the celebration on their social media channels.
Chasing 275 to win in the final, Team India were reeling at 31/2 at one stage. The duo of Gautam Gambhir (97) and Virat Kohli (35) shared an 83-run stand for the third wicket to bail the team out of trouble.
Amid the pressure situation, Dhoni held the one end firmly and took his team over the line with 6 wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare. Soon after he hit the winning six off Nuwan Kulasekara, all the Indian players went numb with some of them even shedding tears at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
