Batting great Sunil Gavaskar feels the biggest challenge for Rohit Sharma as the Indian skipper will be to manage and bring the best out of the players amid a ‘grueling’ schedule.

Rohit Sharma’s stint as the full-time white-ball Indian skipper started on a high as under him India whitewashed West Indies in both ODIs and T20Is. However, this is just the begnning for the ‘Men in Blue’ as they have a hectic schedule ahead of them in 2022.

The Indian players will first lock horns against Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I and two-Test series and will then be engaged in the IPL 2022. After the tournament, the Rohit Sharma-led side will play five T20Is against South Africa and then travel to England for a Test match, and 5 T20Is. The year's biggest tournament, the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia will be their next stop.

With a jam-packed schedule ahead of them, there’s no doubt that skipper Rohit Sharma along with team management will face certain challenges including the workload management of the players.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that getting the players to play at their highest level amid a busy schedule and keeping them mentally and physically fit will be challenging for Indian team management.

"I think the challenge is getting the players to play at their highest as far as their mental and physical conditioning is concerned because there is so much of cricket which not just the Indian team is playing but the international cricket," Sunil Gavaskar said.

Sunil Gavaskar further talked about a jam-packed schedule for Indian players in 2022. He said that managing players in a ‘grueling schedule’ will be the biggest challenge for Rohit Sharma as the skipper.

"There is going to be 2 months of IPL and then 5 T20Is against South Africa and then that one-off Test in England followed by T20i series there. It's a grueling schedule. So how to manage the players as far as their form and fitness are concerned. That's going to be the biggest challenge for Rohit and the team management," he said.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was recently appointed as the Test skipper of Team India. The Men in Blue will be next seen in action on 24th February, when they lock horns against Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-match T20I series.
