Following a 96-run victory over Australia in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies, Indian skipper Yash Dhull said that they planned to bat steadily and not to try too many shots. 

Batting first, after winning the toss, the Indian team was off to a shaky start as they lost both the openers for just 37 runs. Then skipper Yash Dhull along with his deputy Shaik Rasheed steered their team out of the trouble.

The duo stitched a 204-run partnership and helped India U19 post a total of 290 runs on the board. While the skipper scored 110 runs, Rasheed scored 94 runs in India’s victory over Australia U19 in the semi-final.

Defending the target, the Yash Dhull-led side kept taking wickets at regular intervals and bundled out the opposition for just 194 runs to reach their fourth consecutive final in the U19 World Cup. 

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Yash Dhull said that plan for him and Rasheed was to bat steadily till the end and not try too many shots. He added that he along with the vice-captain batted well together and it came off well. 

“The plan from me and Rasheed was to bat till the end, and it worked. The idea was to bat steadily, not to try too many shots, and to bat past the 40th over. Myself and Rasheed bat well together, we combine well and it showed. Rasheed and I had a good partnership and we had good partnerships lower down as well,” Yash Dhull said after the victory. 

Yash Dhull further praised his teammates along with Shaik Rasheed, who contracted COVID-19 along with him mid-tournament. He further said that he’s proud to be the third Indian captain to score a U19 World Cup ton after Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand. 

“The way in which the boys are playing is good. Rasheed is mentally very strong. We were in the bubble together and he is always mentally prepared,” he said. 

India will now meet England in the final of the U19 Cricket World Cup on Saturday (5th February).
