Eight Indians in WBBL 2021 speaks volumes about Indian talent- Jemimah Rodrigues

Rodrigues also lauded Mandhana for her century in pink-ball Test against Australia, earlier this year.

Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues said that eight Indian players featuring in recently concluded WBBL 2021 prove how much talent the country truly has.

Indian women batters, who played in Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2021, impressed many with their performances. The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, and others set the stage on fire and helped their team win. 

While Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the Player of the Tournament, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues scored 377 and 333 runs respectively.

Speaking to ANI at an event, Indian women batter Jemimah Rodrigues said that she would love to carry on her good form in the Indian colors and play accordingly to the role given to her. She added that she’s looking forward to the ‘busy’ next year. 

"Yeah, definitely I would look to carry on with the form. Anybody would love to do that. It is more exciting to do it in India colors and that is the ultimate goal to do whatever I can to help the team win and play according to the role that is given to me. I will be working towards it, very excited, looking forward to the next year as it will be a busy one," Jemimah Rodrigues said. 

Rodrigues stressed that eight Indian players played in WBBL 2021 speaks the volume about the talent in the country. She said that they all are excited and cannot wait to play for India. 

"I think it will be a blessing for all of us, we were in Australia for a long time. This experience will hold us in good stead, eight Indians played in the WBBL and that speaks volumes about the talent we have in India. I think it will be really exciting for all of us and we cannot wait to play for India again," she said. 

While talking about Smriti Mandhana’s Test century against Australia in the pink-ball Test, Rodrigues said that the opening batter was nervous when she was in her 80s and had the pressure of converting 80 into 100. 

She lauded Mandhana’s innings as one of her best, saying that it was an effortless knock and she was very happy for her.

"I think Smriti Mandhana, even in the ODIs, had scored 80 odd. She was batting exceptionally well, she had double the pressure in the day-night Test to convert that 80 into a 100. She was very nervous as she was batting on 80 odd overnight. It was so nice to see Smriti bat, it was one of her best innings. It was effortless, I was very happy to see her bat," she said. 

Jemimah Rodrigues said that she loves playing cricket and she’ll continue doing the things she has been doing. 

“Whatever you do, there is an expectation from you. It has been a learning process for me, I love the sport and hence I play it. I just have to go out there and do the things I have been doing," she said.
