The BCCI in association with the MPL Sports, the official kit sponsor of the Indian Men's, Women's, and Under-19 Cricket Team, unveiled the new Team India jersey which the players will don in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
The cheers of the billion-plus fans of the team at home and abroad have provided inspiration for the jersey that the players will don at the upcoming T20 World Cup. This is the first time in the history of Indian cricket that fans have been memorialized on a jersey. It carries their chants and cheers from iconic past matches, transformed into unique soundwave patterns.
MPL shared a video on social media in which Rohit Sharma spoke about the jersey and said: “This time the responsibility is fully on us to show our best game. Especially, when you are wearing the support of brilliant fans. We're ready for it.”
Apart from Rohit, India captain Virat Kohli also said that he was proud to donning this unique jersey, saying, “We are really proud to be wearing this jersey literally the roaring cheers from a billion fans in the form of this unique pattern. Definitely, a special jersey and i cannot wait to go on the field wearing this.”
Kohli further added: "We have immense respect for our fans and this makes the official jersey even more special. The design is quite striking and distinct from the ones we have sported in the past while also delivering on comfort and performance to enable us to give our best. All of us are thrilled to don the new colors, show our game and make our billion-plus fans proud.”
On the other hand, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said: "The Indian cricket team enjoys support not just in India but around the world, and there's no better way to celebrate their excitement and energy than through this jersey. This will undoubtedly provide the team with the much-needed enthusiastic support in their quest to emerge as the T20 champions of the world. We are also pleased to see that MPL Sports continues to deliver merchandise that is widely affordable and accessible."
