West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite apologized for his team’s thrashing by South Africa in the recent two-match Test series at home on Monday (June 21) in St Lucia.

The West Indies team failed to score over 200 runs in all four innings as South Africa put up a strong display to beat the hosts comprehensively in both Tests.

Following the whitewash at the hands of the Proteas at home, Brathwaite admitted the hosts were “disappointing” with the bat in the recently-concluded Test series and they are “very sorry” for the loss.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Brathwaite said: “We're very sorry. We were disappointing. We've got to come back and show that fight. Sometimes it's not all about winning but you want to see the fight and we didn't show the fans the fight. We've got to come back better.”

However, the new Test skipper has insisted that not having a batting coach did not hamper West Indies’ preparations for the home Test series against South Africa.

He added, “It isn't a factor [having no batting coach]. The coaches here are doing a very good job. And as batters, we know where we went wrong. We didn't bat well. Full stop.”

Noteworthy, West Indies and South Africa will now lock horns in a five-match T20I series, beginning on Saturday (June 26) at the Queen's Park in Grenada.
