Indian bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is hopeful of national teammate Rohit Sharma winning a World Cup for Team India.

The Tamil Nadu spinner has seen Rohit bat for around 2 decades and is of the opinion that the Mumbaikar can be put on the pedestal of cricketers like former Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

Ashwin said in a recently held press conference, “When you put him on the pedestal of Virender Sehwag and the few other names you mentioned, that’s the right place, that’s where he belongs. We all know that. My history with Rohit goes a long way back, probably 20 years ago, since I have watched him bat, and he has always been a special batsman.

Deep Dasgupta says Rohit Sharma will do great in challenging conditions in England

He also called Rohit a special cricketer and a special batsman. Ashwin also hopes that Rohit Sharma gets the opportunity to win a World Cup for India.

It is not a surprise that you are seeing him on the same lines as Sehwag. It’s not evolution; it’s just a matter of time. Nobody is surprised with Rohit Sharma for doing what he’s doing. He is a special cricketer; he’s a special batsman. I just hope he goes on to win a World Cup for India,” he added.

Rohit Sharma will be in action for India in the T20I series against England from Friday, March 12 while R Ashwin will be seen in Delhi Capitals colors during IPL 2021 starting next month.
