Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta has backed Rohit Sharma to make a Test tour of England, saying the experienced opener is in great mind space and has got the talent and all the experience in the world to find success in challenging English conditions.

The right-hander finished the recent four-match Test series against England at home as the second-highest run-scorer with 345 runs including a series-defining 161 and the commentator backed him to be successful when India tours England for the ICC World Test Championship and five-match Test series against Joe Root's team later this year.

However, he admitted that Rohit's numbers are not that great outside India but believes that the latter has enough talent and experience to get success in the alien-like English conditions.

Dasgupta told Sports Today, “Why not? I do understand his numbers are not that great outside India. But he has that in him. Obviously, it's going to be more challenging because conditions in England are more alien to Indian batsmen, obviously, there will be challenges there.”

He further explained, “But Rohit, with all the experience and talent, he should I will back him to be successful. I know we go by numbers all the time, but I believe he is in a very good mind space right now, he has got all the experience in the world and also the talent.”

The former cricketer has pointed out that Rohit never looked troubled in the Australia tour earlier this year, and he failed to score big only because of just one bad shot or one lapse in concentration and hopes the opener will not make those mistakes in the future.

Dasgupta signed off by saying, “It just needs to click. For example, in Australia he looked good, he was getting out for those 30s and 40s but he looked classy, he didn't look troubled at all. It's just that one bad shot or one lapse in concentration. Hopefully, he will not make those mistakes. These conditions (India) were not easy, the runs he scored against England are worth their weight in gold.”
