"Amir should prove his form to get back into team, everything else is irrelevant"- Misbah-Ul-Haq

Nobody had supported Amir's selection on the basis of his performance, said Misbah.

Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq said that pacer Mohammad Amir should go back to domestic cricket to prove his worth rather than making up circumstances surrounding his sudden retirement.

Mohammed Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on December 17 citing not being able to handle the mental torture that has been subjected to him by the current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and team management.

Mohammed Amir has been in talks since his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal took his career into a dungeon. Even though he returned to cricket, he has had to deal with a lot of criticism and comparisons.

But he let the ball talk and silenced his critics in the India-Pakistan Asia Cup game in 2016 and then later shattered the hopes of Kohli and co in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

After being the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup, the 28-year-old fiery pacer called time on his Test career, after playing just 36 Tests, in which he scalped 119 wickets.

Since then the pacer didn't have any impact in limited-overs for Pakistan which lead to his exclusion from the 35-member squad for the recently concluded New Zealand tour.

Referring to the same former Pakistani captain, Misbah, said nobody in the coaching staff had supported Amir's selection on the basis of his performance.

"There was talk about Waqar Younis related to Amir but there is no truth in it at all. There were six [association] coaches as selectors, me as chief selector, and then there was a captain. So this is absolutely not possible, [the idea] that one person out of all could have influenced the decision," said Misbah-ul-Haq.

"Nobody was supporting his selection on the basis of performance. I have no idea why he made up everything and tried to give this whole scenario a context that is out of proportion. For him, it was a simple method: go back and prove his form and get back in the team and everything else is irrelevant," he added.

Mohammed Amir didn't have the best of England tour as he went wicketless and then had a dismal outing in Pakistan's National T20 Cup before he was dropped from the Zimbabwe series.

Highlighting his exclusion from the Zimbabwe series last year Misbah said we wanted to give chance to youngsters. “Against Zimbabwe last year we gave him a simple reason that we are going to play youngsters like [Mohammad] Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Musa Khan," said Misbah.

The Pakistan pacer played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. Amir has 259 wickets across three international formats of the game.
