Former India cricketer Suresh Raina and the Gracia Raina Foundation – co-founded by him and his wife Priyanka Raina, have joined hands with the Uttar Pradesh Government’s “Mission Prerna” initiative to improve the quality of education across the Indian state.
The ‘Mission Prerna’ initiative has been launched by the Yogi Adityanath government to ensure strong foundational learning for children across Uttar Pradesh.
Raina and his foundation are now also part of this flagship program of UP Government to spread awareness about children’s early learning at home.
Raine, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, as a father himself of two children Gracia and Rio, is determined to provide the same support to his kids too and also called for other parents to follow suit to support their child’s early learning at home.
In a video shared by the Department of Basic Education Uttar Pradesh and the Gracia Raina Foundation on Twitter, Raina has shared a message for all the parents while saying how it is important for parents to spend time much as much for the psychological and cognitive development of their children.
While stressing the importance of strong foundational learning for children, the former cricketer also shared stories from his childhood and his parenthood to encourage parents to support their child’s early learning at home and urges others to join him in the initiative.
Raina said in an official statement: “My parents always believed that to succeed in any field, it is important to begin early. Hence, they ensured that I started my cricket training at a young age. I soon developed a disciplined routine of training in the morning, followed by studies in the evening, which ultimately helped me to realize my dreams.”
He continued, “Even though both my children are quite young, this is the correct age to begin learning fundamental skills. My wife and I have become their teachers at home and started to teach them basic skills like speaking, reading, counting, identifying colors, and so on, to help their mental and physical development.”
On his and his wife’s involvement in the initiative, Raina said: “We are both members of ‘Mission Prerna’ as it helps both parents and teachers to educate their children and students. The initiative provides access to various engaging and entertaining educational programs available across various mediums be it mobile phones, television, or radio. I urge all parents to join the initiative and become ‘Ghar Ke Teachers’.”
Noteworthy, the Mission Prerna initiative focuses on foundational learning skills with the help of parent’s involvement since the children often learn best at an early age. It also encourages parents to join the movement and start teaching their children at home to give them a stronger foundation.
