Kamran Akmal lauds Rohit Sharma’s timing, temperament, and commitment

Rohit Sharma is the only batsman to score more than one double-century in ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma is one of the leading run-getters in limited overs cricket | AFPIndia opener Rohit Sharma has had an amazing cricket career since 2013 when he turned opener for the Indian team. With Tendulkar, Sehwag, and Gambhir all out of the picture, India needed a new opener and MS Dhoni pushed Rohit to the top, whose career was lingering in the middle order.

With the freedom to play the way he wants, Rohit flourished at the top and now has smashed three ODI double-hundreds, four T20I hundreds, and has even done well in Tests, with a double century and tons in both innings of a Test against South Africa last year.

His 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 remains the highest individual ODI score and second-best in List-A cricket. His importance and temperament were lauded by Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal.

Amazing, unbelievable batsman. The kind of joy you get while watching him bat is immense. His timing, temperament, and commitment towards batting is just unbelievable. Scoring 200s, 150s is very tough. He has two double hundreds I guess (Rohit has three). And look at the recent World Cup, he scored five centuries,” Akmal told Pakistan broadcast journalist Sawera Pasha on her Youtube chat show Cric Cast.

He can hit boundaries with such grace, can rotate the strike with singles too. The biggest plus point is his power hitting, he can hit big shots and sixes. Youngsters, who want to learn the art of batting, should watch him, Babar Azam, Virat Kohli,” the out-of-favor batsman said.

Rohit Sharma had a stellar 2019 World Cup with a world record five centuries to his name and ended the tournament as the highest run-getter with 648 runs to his name. His highest score in the tournament-140 came against Pakistan.

Having made his India debut in 2007, Rohit has played 32 Tests, making 2141 runs with 6 centuries to his name. His highest score is 212. In 224 ODIs, Rohit has made 9115 runs with 29 centuries and an average of 49.27.

While in 108 T20Is, he has 2773 runs with 4 centuries, including the joint-fastest ton in 35 balls.
