Former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers dismissed all the speculations that were going around that he was asked to lead the national side by saying that they are ‘‘just not true’.
"CSA wants me to lead South Africa again," reveals AB de Villiers
“Reports suggesting Cricket SA have asked me to lead the Proteas are just not true. It's hard to know what to believe these days. Crazy times. Stay safe everyone,” de Villiers wrote on Twitter.

Even though the Proteas have a limited-overs skipper in the form of wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock, they haven’t been able to find a successor to former Test captain Faf du Plessis. Thus, the rumor started going around.
“The desire is there from my side to play for South Africa, and I have been asked by Cricket South Africa to lead the Proteas again,” the 36-year-old was quoted saying by Wisden, who referenced Star Sports prime show ‘Cricket Connected’.
The 36-year-old played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs, and 78 T20s for South Africa before retiring back in 2018.
