The MCC has confirmed the latest development in a press release on Wednesday (February 12) with the club president Kumar Sangakkara will captain a 12-member squad, including the likes of Ravi Bopara, Roelof van der Merwe and Ross Whiteley against Pakistan.
The English club will kick start their Pakistan tour with the first floodlit T20 against the Lahore Qalandars – Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise that has the international stars like Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman in their ranks, at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
The MCC will then take on the Pakistan Shaheens – Pakistan’s ‘A’ team led by Saud Shakeel in a 50-over match at Aitchison College on February 16.
Meanwhile, the Club will then switch to the T20 format against Pakistan’s domestic champions Northern and PSL side Multan Sultans which has England’s Moeen Ali and James Vince in their ranks on February 17 and 19 respectively.
It will be MCC’s first tour in 48 years and the club’s head coach Ajmal Shahzad said of the Pakistan tour: “This tour of Pakistan will be a momentous occasion for everyone involved. We expect the standard of cricket to be high during this trip.”
Shahzad signed off by saying, “The MCC squad possesses both international and extensive domestic experience which I am sure will prove strong opposition for some of Pakistan’s best-emerging cricketers. We hope that this tour helps contribute to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s wish of seeing international teams returning to tour the country on a regular basis.”
