Gulbadin Naib threatens to name Afghan players who purposefully underperformed in World Cup

Afghanistan lost all their nine matches in the tournament.

Afghanistan team during World Cup 2019Afghanistan cricket has been on the rise on the cricket field off late with their Test win over Bangladesh and T20I series win over West Indies; however, things have not been so rosy off the field as the Afghanistan Cricket Board and their players have issues of their own to sort out.

Recently, the ACB officials reappointed Asghar Afghan as captain in all three formats, which came as a surprise given that he was removed two months before the 2019 World Cup and Gulbadin Naib had led the team in the tournament, where they lost all of the nine matches.

Afghanistan board reappoints Asghar Afghan as captain of team in all three formats

Given the performance of the team, Naib was dumped as captain, with Rashid Khan being named captain in all formats shortly after. Now Naib has come up with some startling revelations as he tweeted warning to publicly name and shame Afghanistan cricket board officials, the government, players and management if appropriate actions aren't taken.

In a long thread on Twitter, Naib wrote, "My dear Afghans, the main reason why i went public is not because i have personal grudge against player or the board. I am going to reveal every persons identity involved in corruption and other misconducts and betrayals against our Nation cricket and its ppl.”

In a series of tweets on Wednesday Naib also threatened to expose the cricketers who had deliberately underperformed during ICC Cricket World Cup under his captaincy. "The same circle have access all the way to some high level gov officials, who have influence over the cricket board and management. Some blatantly admitted to the board that they were not performing as they were suppose to during world cup because of my captaincy," Naib tweeted.

Naib came under heavy criticism for the team’s performance given that they had three golden chances after putting pressure on India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan and almost taking the match to the end, ultimately falling short.
