Afghanistan board reappoints Asghar Afghan as captain of team in all three formats

Afghan was removed from captaincy a month before the 2019 World Cup.

Asghar Afghan with Rashid KhanThe Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has taken a massive decision of reappointing Asghar Afghan as the team’s captain in all three formats. This decision came from the upper echelon of ACB officials.

This comes off the heals of Afghanistan performing poorly in the 2019 World Cup before which, Afghan was removed as captain of the team and Gulbadin Naib was named instead as ODI captain, while Rahmat Shah got the Test reins. After the poor performance, Naib was replaced by Rashid Khan in all the three formats and he led them to a big Test win over Bangladesh and the T20I series win over West Indies recently.

Asghar has so far featured in over 100 ODIs and also has the experience of playing all the four Tests that Afghanistan has played so far. He has one century under his name in ODIs and has slammed a total of 18 half-centuries in all the three formats combined.

ACB tweeted the decision saying,"As per the decision by ACB Top management , Senior player Asghar Afghan is reappointed as team Afghanistan's Captain across formats."
