On April 15, 2025, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) hosted the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Mullanpur Stadium in Chandigarh for the 31st match of the IPL 2025.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. Priyansh Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (30) scored 39 runs in 3.2 overs. But suddenly, the PBKS lineup collapsed like a deck of cards. Shreyas Iyer was out for a two-ball duck, and the rest of the hitters followed.
Shashank Singh scored 18 to take the total past 100 runs, but the PBKS was bowled out for 111 in 15.3 overs. Harshit Rana took three wickets for twenty-five runs, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine each took two.
KKR had a poot start as both openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine both got out for single-digit scores. Then Yuzvendra Chahal struck twice, dismissing Ajinkya Rahane (17) and Angkirsh Raghuvanshi (37). Venkatesh Iyer was dismissed for 7 by Glenn Maxwell, leaving KKR 74/5 in 11th over.
Meanwhile, a bizarre incident happened on the 5th ball of the 8th over. Chahal bowled to Venkatesh Iyer, and the batter swept the ball towards fine leg. Xavier Bartlett fielded the ball, and suddenly, the ball went past the boundary.
What happened was that Bartless picked the ball, and as he was shaping to throw it back, the ball slipped from his hand and went to the boundary. And because he was throwing that ball when it slipped out of his hands, it was counted as four overthrow,s and he conceded 5 rus, as the KKR batters had already taken on run.
