IPL 2024: Cricket fraternity reacts as RR defeats MI by 9 wickets; Sandeep Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal star

RR now has 14 points from 8 games with 7 wins and at the door of playoffs qualification.

Sandeep Sharma | BCCI-IPLRajasthan Royals (RR) continued their domination in the IPL 2024, as they registered a brilliant 9-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur on April 22.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first in his 100th game for MI. However, openers Rohit Sharma (6) and Ishan Kishan (0), and no.3 batter Suryakumar Yadav (10) fell to the brilliance of Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma.

Tilak Varma (65), Nehal Wadhera (49), and Mohammad Nabi (23) then managed to push MI to a decent total of 179/9. For RR, Sandeep Sharma shined with the ball, taking 5/18, while Yuzvendra Chahal became the first bowler to take 200 wickets in IPL.

RR’s response was swift as openers Jos Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 74 runs in 8 overs before Piyush Chawla castled the Englishman. This proved to be the only wicket MI managed in this match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal | BCCI-IPLSanju Samson (38) supported Yashasvi Jaiswal in their 109* runs partnership for the second wicket. Jaiswal, who had been struggling for consistency, proved his critics wrong with a sublime 104* with 9 fours and 7 sixes to his name. This was his second IPL hundred and also the second against MI.

RR completed the target of 180 with 9 wickets in hand and won the match in 18.4 overs. Sandeep Sharma was given the Player of the Match for his fifer.

With this win, RR now has 14 points from 8 games thanks to 7 wins and is on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs. MI, on the other hand, has now lost 5 games out of 8 played and is in the 7th spot in the IPL 2024 points table.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the RR team for a brilliant win over MI and lauded the performances of Sandeep Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal on social media.
