IPL 2024: WATCH - Yuzvendra Chahal becomes first bowler to claim 200 wickets in IPL; Cricket fraternity lauds RR leg-spinner

Chahal's achieved the feat in RR's match against MI at Jaipur.

Yuzvendra Chahal | XYuzvendra Chahal etched his name in the history books as he became the first bowler to pick up 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The leg-spinner achieved the feat in in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (April 22).

Chahal was one wicket short of the landmark, and he got there after claiming the scalp of Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

Bowling his first over of the game, Chahal deceived Nabi with his guile and trajectory as the latter gave a simple return catch to the bowler. With this dismissal, RR reduced MI to 52/4 in 7.3 overs after being asked to bowl first.

Yuzvendra Chahal started his IPL career at Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013. A year later, he moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and played for them until 2021.

Chahal was released by RCB ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction, where Rajasthan Royals signed him for INR 6.5 Crore. He had an excellent last two seasons with the inaugural IPL champions.

The wrist-spinner claimed 27 wickets in IPL 2022 and won the Purple Cap and in IPL 2023, he picked up 21 scalps. Last year, Chahal also went past former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (183 wickets) to become the leading wicket-taker in the IPL.

For his historic milestone of 200 IPL wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
